History Repeats Itself!

1985
2011

My parents brought baby pictures of me, too, but I forgot to get copies :X Maybe later ;)

3 weeks old!

Time is starting to fly! We're getting to get out and about with Meridian now that Spring is finally getting here, and it's sooo nice to not be stuck in the house. :) We've been wearing her on our chests with a baby wrap, and we get lots of nice comments about how cute she is :)  We're going to be going up to the mountain, and to the giant dog park, regularly, starting probably tomorrow. I'm excited to get her out into nature!

Not much else is new, except that we're all doing really well with elimination communication (http://www.tribalbaby.org/ECindex.html)! I know, it's one of those "weird" things we're into, but we're sold on how awesome it is, so we don't mind being weirdos in this case :p. Meridian has a certain cry to let us know she needs to pee or poop, and then we hold her over a bowl and let her go. We're getting really good at communicating with each other, which is really, really cool. I like being able to help her out when she cries, instead of staring at her in helpless bewilderment. :) She also seems so much happier after going in a bowl than when she has to sit in a dirty diaper. We could share videos of this (because obviously I'm proud :p) but I'll spare Meri that embarrassment :p

Instead, here are a couple of other videos, mostly from a week or 2 ago (I'm slow putting them up):

This is a video of Meridian smiling in her sleep, not much else :)

And this is a video of her sort of scooting around, from about a week ago. Since then, she's started to bend her arms a little bit while she does this. She still can't crawl yet, obviously, but it's cool seeing how she gets closer and closer as she learns a little bit each day :) And yes, I'm aware that her diaper is dramatically/comically oversized (we didn't buy enough infant-sized diapers initially), but the situation has since been remedied. :p

And some various pics:

You can't see it, but she had already outgrown this outfit in this picture--we couldn't stuff her feet into the bootie part of the outfit. How is she already outgrowing clothes?!

Meri Puts Herself To Sleep :3

Meridian weighs 9 pounds 11 ounces, so she's gained almost a pound and a half since birth, and we're not even to week 3! Healthy baby :3

For anyone interested, there's a box at the top of the blog that just says "Email address..." with a "Submit" button; if you enter your e-mail address here you'll be e-mailed with any updates to this blog.

Some snapshots from week 2

Happy 2 weeks on Earth, Meri! Here's a glimpse of what's been going on so far--mostly just relaxing and getting used to being a family of three! Meri is getting used to having a body--testing out her fingers, toes, tongue, etc. She's also starting to take an interest in her environment. She loves staring at the blanket I made for Ian because it has high-contrast black and white figures. We can't wait until it gets warmer so we can take her outside to explore. It's been so cold here that we've been cooped up inside since day 1 :(

We've had several follow-up visits with the midwives (they came to our house 3 times in the first 2 weeks, which was really helpful). Every time, she gets a good report! Most notably, she has been gaining weight like a champ, weighing higher than expected each time (well, higher than the midwives expect, but I'm never surprised; I know how much she eats!)

She's also really, really strong: she is already trying to crawl--when she's on her tummy, she'll shuffle her legs like she's crawling, and she's actually able to move around a little this way, but she keeps her arms splayed out to the side :p Once she figures out how to use those, she'll be on her way! She started to lift her head at one or two days old, and often does, especially if she's hungry. She'll pick up her head and bang it against my chest, or whatever she can hit, repeatedly, when she's looking for food. Expressing her discontent with slow food service is pretty much the only time she cries; it's so nice having a relaxed baby! She comes close to crying when we try to put clothes on her, but we definitely don't mind letting her run around nekkid. Baby clothes are a pain to put on, we're discovering, especially when there are multiple diaper blow-outs to deal with :p

She had a lot of fun meeting her Mamah and Papah (Jamie's parents) this past week, and next she'll be meeting Grampa David in May! Any other visitors are welcome any time :)  We're also trying to figure out when to visit TX and TN...For anyone who's interested, we're also getting a webcam so we can Skype with family in-between visits. :)

Tootsies! Big monkey tootsies :)

Already world-weary :p

oops! :p

 Unsure about the bouncer...

Wide-eyed wonderment :)

Showing her distaste for wearing clothing :p

With Papah

Ian resting...he's the best dad! He is so loving and attentive to Meri, and and he's been doing sooo much for us while I've been recuperating.  Now I'm feeling much better, though, so we're starting to even out the household duties a little :)

Night night :)
